(3053)

1000fl.oz / 90 sublingual tablets

Product Summary:

Vitamin B12 is a water soluble vitamin commonly found in animal products such as meat, poultry, fish, milk, cheese and eggs, as well as in fortified breakfast cereals. Its role, as part of a coenzyme, is to help build red blood cells, form DNA (our genetic make-up) and maintain nerve cells.

The body can store B12, however strict a vegetarian and/or vegan diet without proper supplementation could lead to a deficiency. The elderly may also be at risk of developing B12 deficiency due to their diet and reduced absorption of nutrients if digestion is compromised. B12 is bound to protein and is released in the intestine by hydrochloric acid. It then combines with intrinsic factor (IF) and is absorbed. Certain intestinal disorders and medications can interfere with B12 absorption. Check with your medical professional if you have questions.

Vitamin B12, along with folic acid and vitamin B6 help control homocysteine levels, which, when heightened, are known risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
